LETTERS FROM JONI LAMB – NOVEMBER 2019

Giving Thanks: It’s Good for You

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” Philippians 4:6-7a (NLT)

In tough times, giving thanks can feel like a tall order. So why would God ask us to do it while still surrounded by a situation with no resolution in sight?

A short and simple answer: It’s good for you.

When life’s challenges loom large, gratitude is a gentle reminder that your problems are small potatoes when compared with God’s power. Even when we’re surrounded by evil, we can thank the Father for His faithfulness—trusting He can redeem every situation for His glory and our good. (Romans 8:28)

In fact, being thankful is downright therapeutic. Bringing healing to troubled hearts, it turns our attention away from fear and focuses on God’s goodness, grace, and mercy.

So I want to encourage you today that while I may not know what you’re going through, the Lord does—and He loves you. Instead of letting worry steal your joy this holiday season, I hope you’ll pray about whatever you’re facing and give thanks for the many moments God has come through in your life.

What follows will be peace beyond anything you could ever imagine—and that, my friend, is a sweet reason to celebrate. Happy Thanksgiving!
